Parents get chance to voice concern over CYFS
Maori parents who have encountered problems dealing with the Child, Youth and Family Service are being invited to share their concerns at a hui in Auckland this month.
Organiser Raewyn Kapa says the transition from CYFS to the new Ministry for Vulnerable Children is unlikely to fix many of the systemic problems Maori parents face, and whanau need to prepare themselves for any challenges ahead.
She says many Maori parents have found the family group conference system weighted against them, and they don't know where to turn.
"Mothers and father need that opportunity to hui together, be heard, to have that korero, to be able to come out of the FGCs and say we are not being heard to actually progress to have our tamariki given back," Ms Kapa says.
Te Rito Whanau Restoration Hui is at Botany Town Centre meeting room from 10 to 1 on Friday November 18.
