Community left out of Maori TV reshape
Tamaki Makaurau MP Peeni Henare is challenging the board of Maori Television to front up to the community about changes at the service.
Staff have been told some jobs will go in a restructure of the production and programming department.
Head of content Mike Rehu says it’s about streamlining decision making processes and aiming for content that will attract greater audiences.
Mr Henare says there is widespread concern about the direction the organisation is heading, and that promises made to the community when it opened 12 years ago are being ignored.
"As stakeholders as a community we're just not feeling involved and I think it's playing out whereby the community feels that a taonga that belongs to Maori and the motu whanui isn't being cared for," he says.
Peeni Henare says staff morale has been extremely low.
