Davis marathon to break violence silence

Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis is inviting people to join a new hikoi to stop sexual violence.
The Seven7 Challenge involves seven marathons in seven days, bringing together iwi and advocates dedicated to stopping sexual violence.
It’s a continuation his hikoi last year the length of the electorate from Auckland to Cape Reinga.
Mr Davis says sexual violence is rife in so many isolated communities and the harm inflicted is causing life-long damage.
He says it’s important to end the secrecy and encourage safer options for sexual violence survivors and witnesses to speak out.
Mr Davis will walk 40 kilometres around Kaitaia each day through the week supported by Kaikohe Pastor Mike Shaw, Ngati Whatua leader Anthony Thompson and the sexual violence advocacy group Korowai Tumanako.
The Seven7 Challenge starts on Sunday October 23 at Awanui School.
