The government has called for projects that will support greater participation by Maori in New Zealand’s digital technology industries.
The $30 million Maori Digital Technology Fund was set up after the Government rejected giving Maori any share in future spectrum allocations, which could have pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into the Maori economy.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says applications which demonstrate collaboration across government, iwi, business and community organisation sand tap into other sources of funding will be encouraged.
Priorities include improving digital skills and pathways for Maori in digital technologies, growing technology businesses and enhancing Maori language and culture initiatives through digital technologies.
The fund will be a joint programme between the lead agency, Te Puni Kokiri, and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
