Tuhoe world view for Reeves Lecture
Tuhoe activist Tame Iti has been chosen to deliver this year’s Bishop Sir Paul Reeves Memorial Lecture at Auckland’s AUT University.
Mr Iti will discuss the concept of mana and how this empowers all people to transcend concepts of authority.
He will also explore the methods employed by Tuhoe where decisions for the iwi start with the whanau and push their way up, using the metaphor from the raindrop, to the river, to the sea.
The lecture, which is modelled on the BBC Reith Lectures, is on November 9 at the building named after Sir Paul Reeves, who was the university’s chancellor from 2005 until his death in 2011.
