Makereti earns authors fellowship

Kapiti Coast writer Tina Makereti has been given a fellowship by the New Zealand Society of Authors to work on a project that shows a high level of literary merit and national significance.
The $7000 Peter & Dianne Beatson Fellowship is awarded each year to a mid-career or senior writer.
Previous recipients include Michael Harlow, Glenn Colquhoun, Sue McCauley and Marilyn Duckworth.
Ms Makereti will work on her next novel The Imaginary Lives of James Poneke.
She says the fellowship not only supports the project financially, but provides crucial encouragement and just the right amount of time pressure to get things done.
