Te Kaika hub for south Dunedin

Green MP and Dunedin resident Metiria Turei is welcoming the opening of an iwi-driven health and social services hub in south Dunedin.
Te Runaka o Otakau has opened Te Kaika at the former Caversham Primary School with financial backing from the South Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency, Te Putahitanga.
The site has been used by the iwi for youth and alternative education programmes, and adding a health arm will be a significant contribution to the large working class area.
"We’ve had a lot of school closures in south Dunedin, a lot of service closures around there as well so it will be really important that this is a hub where families can get access to more suppport and the health support but also just the social support and the social networking that comes out of communities having a space to gather together. It's a really good thing for south Dunedin," says Metiria Turei.
