Effective opposition strengthens Davis
Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis isn’t concerned at an assault by a reinvigorated Mana on his seat.
The Mana leader came out of his party’s weekend conference talking up his prospects of winning back the seat, which would be boosted if the Maori Party agrees not to stand a candidate.
Mr Davis says he’s comfortable with the work he has done as the local MOP and as Labour’s corrections spokesperson.
"Having the corrections portfolio for less than a year we managed to make Serco lose a $300 million contract, the minister lost his job. There's ways and means of doing your job and hammering away, doing the best you can. I'm not going to waste energy worrying about what others are going to do. If it isn't them it is going to be someone else trying to win the seat and you have got to have respect for whoever stands against you but just go out and be yourself and do what you have to do," he says.
