Te Raukura win secondary kapa haka title

A bittersweet win for Rotorua’s Raukura at the secondary schools kapa haka competition in Heretaunga.
The group, which is drawn from Rotorua Boys' and Rotorua Girls' High Schools, made its performance a tribute to Te Arawa leader Mauriora Kingi, who died a year ago.
Mr Kingi’s son Tawharau Mohi opened the set with a short speech about how his father's death was still fresh for him, which was followed by an apakura or lament.
Nga Puna Waiorea from Western Springs College in Auckland had to settle for second, the same spot they took at this year’s Polyfest, while Huntly’s Te Wharekura o Raakaumangamanga came third.
