Text tips help tobacco quitters
Te Tai Tokerau Public Health Organisation is using text messages to try to cut down Northland’s high rate of smoking, particularly among Maori.
Chief executive Rose Lightfoot says primary heath care providers from Kawakawa to Te Hapua now use the Vensa Health system to connect with patients to check on smoking status, offer positive health messages about quitting and support people who are ready to quit.
The system can also help to lift participation in other preventative activities such as immunisation or cervical screening.
