Tamihere stands up to state cyberbully
Waipareira chief executive John Tamihere is challenging the government to stump up for the software his organisation has developed to run Whanau Ora and other service delivery programmes.
Finance Minister Bill English has praised the quality of reporting coming out to the Whanau Tahi Navigator program, which is now used by almost all Whanau Ora providers.
It’s also being picked up by district health boards as a way to get a better picture of what is happening at community level, and the company is also making sales overseas.
Mr English says he wants to replicate its approach, and the internal data highway the government is now building will allow it to build a similar tool.
Mr Tamihere says he only has to ask.
"He doesn’t go an steal Microsoft products, he buys them. Out of blood sweat and tears we've developed this journey and our people should be respected accordingly. And the state or any other organisation shouldn't use it's monopoly purchasing, to squeeze us out of a market once we've proven how beneficial we are to it," says John Tamihere.
