South Island Whānau Ora commissioning agency, Te Pūtahitanga o Te Waipounamu, is hosting its first symposium from 7 – 8 July at the Lincoln
Events Centre in Christchurch. The theme for the symposium is: Te Aho Mutunga Kore – The Eternal Thread representing the everlasting and perpetual strength of whānau from the rich heritage of yesteryear through to the entrepreneurial splendour of tomorrow. Woven throughout will be the exploration of a number of sub themes including: sustainability, whānau well-being and vulnerability.
Te Pūtahitanga Chief Executive, Helen Leahy says, “the symposium is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our journey so far. Over the past two years we have invested $6.7m in over 50 diverse and innovative initiatives across Te Waipounamu. These initiatives, alongside of the support provided to whānau through the 32 Whānau Ora Navigators, and our unique
Whānau Enterprise Coaches, have helped to achieve some truly amazing whānau outcomes. By showcasing our success stories, we can hopefully inspire and motivate others that their own solutions are often the most effective in achieving change.”
Around 200 people are expected to attend the two-day event. Over the course of the symposium a number of successful Whānau Ora initiatives will be showcased along with kōrero from a range of dynamic and inspirational key note speakers including: the Minister for Whānau Ora, Hon Te Ururoa Flavell,
Dame Tariana Turia, Tā Mark Solomon, Miriana Stephens, winner of the 2016
Māori Business Leader Award and director of Aotahi Ltd and Whakatū Inc, lifestyle entrepreneur Robett Hollis of Aranui Ventures and founder and director of Kakano Café and Cookery School, Jade Temepara.
A further 25 new project investments will be announced at the symposium as part of our third wave of funding.
