Tau suspension extended

The Ngapuhi Runanga isn’t offering Sonny Tau his job back just yet, even though the official punishment for his pigeon poaching is now known.
Mr Tau will be sentenced next month for being in possession of five protected kereru and for attempting to pervert the course of justice by getting his son in law to take the blame.
He’s been told to expect $25,000 in fines and 100 hours community service.
The runanga yesterday decided Mr Tau will remain on leave from his role as chair until July.
Acting chair Carol Dodd says he can still lead and influence issues of significance to Ngapuhi.
But he's agreed to resign as a director of Ngapuhi Iwi Social Services and other runanga commercial subsidiaries, and his stand down as a director of Ngapuhi Asset Holding Company was extended another three months.
She says Mr Tau has acknowledged and apologised for the error of his actions.
