Rotorua’s eastside community is leading the way in the battle against sugary drinks.
A Water Only Month encouraging people to supply and drink water rather than sugar sweetened beverages was kicked off in the city’s eastern suburbs on April 1.
The initiative is being run by Healthy Families Rotorua in partnership with the Rotorua Eastside Collective and involves the various partners, along with supporters, providing water promotion resources; delivering water promotion presentations; and running water promotion competitions across a number of settings including schools, marae, ECE’s, churches, community centres, kohanga reo and kura kaupapa Maori throughout the month of April.
Healthy Families Rotorua health promoter Warren Tumarae says the pilot project is aimed at reducing and eventually eliminating sugary drinks in one section of the Rotorua community.
