Maori tech companies on council wish list

Auckland Mayor Len Brown says there's still a lot of work needed to increase Maori economic development in the supercity.
The council yesterday held a joint meeting with the Independent Maori Statutory Board to consider the latest board audit of council performance towards Maori outcomes.
Mr Brown says the first Tamaki Herenga Waka Festival was a significant event, and there are also promising moves to support Maori business.
"There was quite a good report round that. Everyone recongnises there is more work to do, particularly with small businesses coming through from the Maori sector but we are reflecting in particular the need to encourage new high tech development in amongst the Maori sector so that was part of the report," he says.
Len Brown says the percentage of Maori in the council workforce still doesn't match their share of the city's population.
