New plan for Rotorua homeless
Rotorua community agencies under the leadership of Te Arawa Whanau Ora are trying to end homelessness in the sulphur city.
Moira Lawler from the Lifewise Trust says the new Rotorua Homeless Action Plan will help the various services work together more effectively.
She says people often become homeless when they get out of prison or finish treatment for mental health issues or addiction, and there is no plan in place.
The agencies know which interventions have proved effective and they all have a part to play.
The Salvation Army estimated there were about 170 homeless people in Rotorua last year, with overcrowding also a serious problem.
