Waitangi’s not the only place to celebrate Waitangi Day.
There are events all over the country including at Hoani Waititi Marae in west Auckland, where Te Whanau o Waipareira has organised a showcase of local talent.
Spokesperson Joe Lose says as well as headliners Savage and House of Shem, there’s emerging talent signed to the new Waatea Music label.
There’s also a chance for people to sign up to Waipareira services.
He says while they don’t expect to top the 15,000 who turned out last year for the Wailers, there should still be a good crowd for the family-focused day.
