Site clear for New Plymouth marae

Ngati Te Whiti is a step closer to building New Plymouth's first marae in 150 years.
Project manager Shaun Keenan says a comprehensive site survey by Taranaki Regional Council had not found any pollution on the 4 hectare Ngamotu Marae site on Ocean View Parade near Port Taranaki.
There had been fears the site was contaminated with asbestos, lead, arsenic or oil waste.
The $4.5 million project has resource and building consent and work should go out to tender next month, once the council report is formally released.
Historian Danny Keenan and artist Darcy Nicholas are working with other hapu members on what cultural embellishments would be appropriate for the buildings.
