Dining hall at remote marae burns

Whanau from Waikare Marae near Aranga are this week cleaning up and assessing how they can rebuild their wharekai, which was destroyed by fire on Sunday evening.
The marae is about 40 minutes north of Dargaville, and locals threw 1buckets of water on the flames until firefighters arrived.
The Fire Service says the blaze was not suspicious.
The nearby whare tupuna was untouched.
The marae is insured.
According to maorimaps.com, the marae is affiliated to Ngati Korokoro, Ngati Wharara, and Tane Hohaia Whanau of Te Roroa.
