Ngai Tahu eyeing performance in new development role
Ngai Tahu’s new General Manager Oranga says her new role or promoting whanau rangatiratanga and success is scary.
Hana O’Regan is returning to the runanga after 10 years at Canterbury Polytechnic Institute of Technology, during which she says she had built up the skills and experience she can give back to the South Island iwi.
The new position has a focus on education, employment, financial literacy and business creation.
She says it’s a chance to contribute directly to the economic, financial, political and cultural independence and sustainability of her iwi.
"I guess the scariness is because you know you're 150 per cent accountable when your'e working for your people. Just like when you're working for the wider community you have to be really accountable. You can't just cruise, you can't just glide you have to make sure you are doing your absolute very best because the people you are going to be accountable for the whanau," says Hana O'Regan.
