Dance hall homophobe a Hasbeenie for Raggamuffin

Raggamuffin has dropped Jamaican reggae singer Beenie Man from its line-up after he refused to distance himself from his past anti-gay lyrics.
Raggamuffin spokesperson Brotha D (Danny Leaoasavaii) says the festival was responding to concerns about the Grammy-winning ‘King of the Dancehall’ raised by GayNZ.
He says Beenie Man failed to answer questions about his past lyrics and comments, and organisers were made aware of his continued homophobic attitude.
He’s been replaced by reggae and reggae fusion artist Diana King, the first Jamaican artist to publicly come out as gay.
Eddy Grant has also been dropped from the line-up because of scheduling conflicts.
The ninth Raggamuffin festival takes place at The Trusts Arena in west Auckland on February 20, with a percentage of ticket sales going to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust.
