The Government is reviewing the Emissions Trading Scheme to see how it could change to support its new target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions after 2020.

Climate Change Minister Tim Groser says the discussion document on the Ministry for the Environment website is aimed at businesses, iwi, the forestry sector, energy users, and non-governmental organisations.

Agriculture has been left out of the review, despite being the largest source of New Zealand’s emissions.

Iwi have been highly critical of the National Government’s emissions policy because it slashed the value of Maori-owned forestry, including assets that were bought as part of treaty settlements.
