More schools embrace Success initiative
Another 444 schools have formed themselves into Communities of Learning, allowing them to dip into the Government’s $359 million Investing in Educational Success initiative.
Education Minister Hekia Parata says it means 793 schools have now agreed to work systematically together to raise student achievement in areas like maths and reading.
There are now 96 Communities of Learning to 96 covering more than 250,000 pupils.
The communities received extra funding so principals and expert teachers can be shared among schools.
The new clusters include 20 schools around the far north and Kaitaia, eight in Kaikohe, the 10 Tainui kura in the Waikato, and five bilingual schools on the East Coast.
The policy is part of the unravelling of the Tomorrow’s Schools initiative, where each schools is a self-governing entity.
