Smartphone lesson for education sector
Education Minister Hekia Parata says New Zealand has a great education system, but it needs more work.
Auckland is about to host the Global Education Leader’s Partnership, bringing together educators from 10 countries.
Ms Parata has just returned from conferences in Finland, the UK and France, and says she was left in no doubt that New Zealand had a world class education system
"We can certainly learn from other systems but what we have here and what we need to be doing is investing even more into the quality of our education system because like a smartphone it has the functionality and all the potential, we just need to know how to use it to its fullest possibility," she says.
Minister Parata says one area she is concerned about is the lower number of children in the pipeline for Maori medium education.
