Occupation prospect in Otuataua protest

The Save Our Unique Landscape group is encouraging Mangere residents to send submissions to Auckland Council against the special housing area beside the Otuataua Stonefields at Ihumatao.
A newspaper SOUL Times was delivered to households in the suburb over the weekend.
Spokesperson Pania Newton says evidence of more than 800 years of occupation will be lost if the development goes ahead.
She says it’s not too late for the council to deny Fletcher Residential a resource consent, if the public show they don’t want it to happen.
"I feel like we are only getting started. There is so much more that needs to be done and I know council say their hands are tied legally but the more people behind our campaign, the more power we will have and there is so much we can do and at the end there might be an occupation," Ms Newton says.
She says the way the development has been notified is unjust, with many neighbours not being offered a chance to comment.
