Rates remission considered for Maori land

Auckland council wants to know what the public thinks of its plan to increase the rates remission it offers on Maori freehold land to better reflect restrictions on its use and sale.
It’s one of a number of issues in the 2016/17 Annual Plan that the council’s Finance and Performance committee are recommending consultation on.
It also wants submissions on lowering rates for farm and lifestyle properties over 50 hectares, the level the uniform annual general charge should be set, and what share of the interim transport levy should be paid by business and what share by residential ratepayers.
Council chair Penny Webster says the discussion will help the mayor develop the proposal he puts before the council in December.
