Nga Potiki advance housing plans
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell has opened state one of a new papakainga in Tauranga.
Te Ohaaki o Miriama is a partnership between Nga Potiki a Tamapahore Trust and landwners the Pirihima Maori Land Trust.
Nga Potiki chair Colin Reeder says the six two-bedroom accessible homes they have been designed as affordable rental accommodation for kaumatua close to the marae and services.
Stage two will consist of four four-bedroom homes,.
He says the project is part of a broader Nga Potiki strategy to address housing needs and housing affordability in the local community.
The iwi plans to develop 50 acres in Papamoa, and it has also registered interes in buying soime of the state houses the Government is selling in Tauranga.
