Hekia says Turakina decision most difficult
Education Minister Hekia Parata says the decision to put the future of Turakina Girls College under the spot light has been extremely difficult for her.
Hekia Parata says the school's closure is not a given and she's hopeful that the community and Presbyterian Church which owns the school can rally around and find a way of keeping the school open which isn't currently viable with just 54 students.
"This is one of the least enjoyable parts of my job frankly. Nobody wants their school closed but on the otherhand we do have to make sure that kids are learning and are achieving and are able to step out on the next part of their lives with qualifications" says the Education Minster.
Hekia Parata says submissions are open on the school's future until September 11 when she will make a decision.
