Skyping te reo

A Ruatoria whanau that has set up a novel way of teaching Te Reo Maori through one-on-one lessons using Skype has been over-whelmed by the response.
Confident Korero founder Manu Caddie says the system is being embraced by both Maori who want to improve their ability to use the language and non-Maori who realise its importance for getting their messages across especially when talking to Maori audiences
Manu Caddie says people pay what they think the lessons are worth and the system is set up to provide empoyment for people on the Coast where there is not a lot of work and the opportunities it provides is proving very successful.
"There's a range. I got contacted by a principal last night and she said she can pay $25 an hour and others are saying a dollar a minute and others aren't paying anything and others are saying they don't want anything. Some of the tutors and kaimahi are saying they'll do it for aroha. They are keen to tautoko the kaupapa and help people out" he says.
Manu Caddie says the uptake has been so strong that Confident Korero is seeking more tutors.
