Maori Party supports East Cape merger

The Maori Party has come out in support of government moves to merge three schools on the East Cape.
Education Minister Hekia Parata has put up a proposal to create a new school from the beginning of next year incorporating Raukokore and Te Kura o Omaio year 1 to 8 year schools with year 1 to 13 Te Whanau-a-Apanaui a move which Maori party leader Te Ururoa Flavell says is pretty inevitable.
He says however if the community can come up with a better plan during a new round of community consultation that would be welcome.
Mr Flavell says falling rolls and educational standards are being the need for change
