Indigenous planning on research agenda
After more than a decade out of the classroom as Lincoln University’s Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Maori), Hirini Matunga has resumed a teaching role at the country’s specialist land-based university.
He's now Professor of Maori & Indigenous Development, Lincoln’s top Maori academic position.
He says he’s looking forward to interacting with students and to leading research into Maori and indigenous planning.
As assistant vice chancellor he developed the university’s whenua strategy that has led to enduring partnerships with many Maori in the land-based sectors, including developing training courses for post-settlement iwi.
Professor Matunga started as a planner with the former Ministry of Works and Auckland Regional Council before entering academia.
