Labour's Law and Order spokesperson Kelvin Davis says the Government's putting a team into Mt Eden to run the prison from this morning does not go far enough.

Mr Davis says the private operator Serco which has been running the prison should have been given a written warning which is the first step to get rid of them but instead they have been given a three months reprieve.

He says he is continuing to get reports of reports of bashings within the prison.

Mr Davis says getting the Bash seems to be commonplace within Mt Eden however if that happened anywhere else action would be taken.

Mr Davis says the measures introduced at the weekend are a joke and just a slap on the hand with a wet bus ticket for Serco.
