Taura Whiri teams with Plunket to reach parents
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori has teamed up with Plunket to get more parents speaking Maori to their tamariki.
The theme for Maori Language Week next week is Whangaihia te reo ki nga Matua, Nurture the Language in Parents.
Acting chief executive Tuehu Harris says for the language to thrive, it needs to be used regularly and meaningfully.
He says Plunket helped the commission develop resources which give parents simple phrases to use, such as haramai e te tau.
This week Plunket and Taura Whiri will host a play group session to introduce the resources to parents.
