Landcare looking at rural future

Landcare Research wants to know what people think New Zealand’s rural landscape may look like in 10, 20 or even 50 years’ time.
Through July it will run an online survey of rural decision makers.
Survey director Pike Brown says it should help policy-makers, researchers and industry groups better understand the realities of how land management decisions are made at an operational level.
Rather than counting the number of sheep farmers may have, it focuses on how and what farmers are thinking.
The 20-minute survey covers the dairy, sheep, beef, deer, pigs and other livestock industry through to arable, horticulture and wine-growing sector.
The first 3000 respondents will also be able to choose a charity for Landcare Research to make a $10 donation on their behalf, including the Maori Women’s Welfare League, CanTeen, the Federated Farmers Adverse Events Trust or the Westpac Chopper Appeal.
