Tuhoe trials captured on film

The 170 year conflict between the Crown and Ngai Tuhoe will be shown through the prism of activist Tame Iti and his family in a documentary that premieres at the New Zealand International Film Festival this month.
The Price of Peace by investigative journalist Kim Webby is a follow-up to her October 15 about the Tuhoe terror raids, which won the Grand Prize at the 2011 Wairoa Maori Film Festival.
Ms Webby says when she showed October 15 at the Pacific International Documentary Film Festival in Tahiti that year, the audience asked “what happens next?”
She returned from Tahiti to film the trial of Mr Iti and the other members of the Urewera Four on weapons charges relating to what the prosecution called military style training camps near Ruatoki.
Her camera tracked his jail sentence, his return home, and his subsequent involvement in Tuhoe’s treaty settlement.
