Second generation Miromoda winner

It will be a family affair for 17-year old Aaliyah Jobe when she presents her work in the Miromoda showcase at next month’s New Zealand Fashion Week in Auckland.
The Auckland teenager won the new emerging sportwear category of the Miromoda Fashion Design competition in Hamilton at the weekend.
She will be followed on the catwork by her mother Kristin Leitch, whose Dmonic Intent label was runner up in the avant-garde category won by Tauranga’s Shona Tawhiao.
The supreme winner was emerging designer Steve Hall from Te Puke with his Abandoned Man collection.
The 25 year-old Massey graduate is having a good year, winning the prestigious iD International Emerging Designer Awards in Dunedin in April.
Mossies took the top two spots in the established designer section, Kylie Mangan from Queensland and Hohepa Thompson from Byron Bay, with Hamilton’s Mitchell Vincent coming third.
Head judge Dame Pieter Stewart says the high quality of entries in the emerging section made selection difficult, and judges created a sportswear section so they could acknowledge the talent on display.
She has moved the Miromoda Showcase at fashion week from Friday to Thursday so the designers can get in front of more buyers.
Dame Barbara says tickets for the showcase are selling faster than any other show.
