Social value measured
Social service providers will have new tools to measure their work if a new network takes off.
Social Value Aotearoa was launched in south Auckland this week as part of an international movement aimed at promoting social value measurement.
Joe Lose from Te Whanau o Waipareira, which is backing the initiative, says it’s a way top move the discussion from what services cost to what value they deliver to communities.
He says it’s based on some simple principles.
"Involve stakeholders. understand what changes, value the outcomes that matter and only include that material in reports, for a lot of agencies it's don't over-claim, be transparent, verify the results so you can track that back that an intervention at some point for a whanau has resulted in these benefits for that whanau and the community," he says.
Mr Lose says the social agencies are getting ahead of the government, which is likely to follow other countries demanding a measurement of social value when funds are handed out.
