Maori new wave at Wairoa Film Fest

This weekend’s Wairoa Maori Film Festival could be ushering in a new wave of Maori filmmaking.
Festival director Leo Koziol says in its first 10 years the festival has become a great place to promote Maori and indigenous talent, form valuable relationships and discuss the craft and kaupapa of telling stories on screen.
He says there’s keen interest in tomorrow’s panel discussion about the post-crash new wave in Ireland, with film makers taking advantage of cheaper equipment and internet-based crowd funding to keep working.
Tonight there’s the world premiere of Lennie Hill and Mark Ruka’s feature Umbrella Man.
