Fierce ambition drives new MP

New Zealand First’s new list MP says she will draw on her Ngati Hine whanau and heritage to help navigate the shoals of parliament.
Ria Bond moved from Motatau when she was 14 and now makes Invercargill her home.
As the grand-niece of the late Sir James Henare she comes from a family with a long history of service in politics, and says she knows they have great expectations of her.
She says she discussed her ambitions with her elders and knows the tribe is backing her.
"We’re very fierce in what we believe in and we go after our dreams and I go home quite often and visit my people, my Uncle Joe is down there at the kaumatua flats by Motatau Marae so I always stop there and visit him and it's a place when I go home, I just love it" Ms Bond says.
She says one of her tasks will be to help New Zealand First pick up more of the Maori vote.
