Kumeroa a generous mentor
The shearing world is remembering the brilliance, courage and generosity of champion wool handler Joanne Kumeroa, who died last Thursday aged 46 after a three-year battle with cancer.
She has been taken back to Parikino on the Whanganui River
Doug Laing from Shearing Sports New Zealand says since she started competing in 1991 Ms Kumeroa won more than 100 titles including five world titles, six Golden Shears open titles, and six New Zealand titles..
She won her last title at the Woornambul Show in Victoria in October, despite being in immense pain.
He says she was always willing to pass her knowledge on, and there are many in the wool handling fraternity who regard her as a mentor.
Shearers and wool handlers from around the country and Australia joined whanau at today's service at Parikino Marae.
Joanne Kumeroa will be buried at Aramoho Lawn cenetery in Whanganui.
