Maori films on show in France
Maori made and themed films will be on show this week at a special festival in France.
The Rochefort Pacifique festival programme is an annual celebration of Pacific cinema & literature.
Guests this year include writer Witi Ihimaera, with the feature White Lies, based on one of his novels, on the programme along with Boy and The Pa Boys.
Leo Koziol from the Wairoa Maori Film Festival has curated a programme of eight short films, including Renae Maihi’s Butterfly, Pumanawa by Poata Eruera and Tohunga by Rebecca Collins.
He says Maori are determined to tell stories against the odds.
Leo Koziol hopes to use his time at the festival to open more doors for Maori filmmakers.
