Waka on Waikato for king’s regatta
Most of Tainui’s waka will be on the Waikato River tomorrow for the 120th Turangawaewae Regatta.
There’s a full programme of events on and off the river that is expected to attract thousands of people for the day.
Turangawaewae Marae rangatahi representative Morrin Haggie says there will be a lot of interest in the waka taua.
" We have Tumanako waka, we have Tatahi Ora which is technically the Kings new one, we have Rangatahi and we have Tahere Tikitiki. We also have another waka called Hawaikura with us so in all we will have five of our Waikato waka paddling in unison " he says.
Morrin Haggie says there will also be two waka from other iwi supporting the regatta, which kicks off at 9am with ceremonial waka salutes to King Tuheitia at 11 and 3.
