Transport, rates high in council concerns


Consultation on Auckland’s draft long term plan are drawing to a close, with hui held yesterday at Manurewa Marae and this evening at the Glen Innes Local Board and at Hoani Waititi Marae.
Council Maori strategy advisory Luella Linaker says feedback so far is that Maori support the idea of a signature event, and they want so see more marae and papakainga development.
They are concerned about Auckland’s transport problems, particularly the struggle to get their tamariki to kura, and about rate rises that are pushing up rents.
There is a hui for mana whenua at Auckland Town Hall next Monday, after which submissions will close.
