Te Tumu Paeroa gets AgResearch boost

The new Maori Trustee Te Tumu Paeroa has signed a memorandum of understanding with AgResearch aimed at boosting Maori agribusiness.
AgResearch Maori portfolio leader Chris Koroheke says the team up with a significant administrator of Maori land it will result wide-ranging
research opportunities to optimise Maori farm performance.
Maori Trustee Jamie Tuuta says Te Tumu Paeroa’s vision is to enable Maori to achieve higher commercial aspirations for their land and assets and grow their value in a sustainable manner.
He says the trustee gains a partner who can give independent scientific advice that can support economic growth on farms.
It will help managers to make more informed decisions for land development projects they are involved with.
The long-term aspect of the relationship means that different kinds of research projects will be possible, including long-term topics such as the impact of climate change or extreme weather events on the farm.
The agencies have jointly submitted a capacity building proposal to the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment that will enable AgResearch to consider the land’s potential and Te Tumu Paeroa’s vision for the land.
