Ngarimu comic to get Kiwa treatment

Digital development company Kiwa has won approval from the Ngarimu whanau and Huia Publishers to give its unique animation treatment to a graphic novel about the Victoria Cross winner Te Moananui a Kiwa Ngarimu.
The deal was announced last night at the launch of Kiwa’s new Nga Atua Maori series of animated comics of the Maori creation stories and demigods.
Business development director Steven Renata says Kiwa has been keen to enhance Andrew Burdan’s Ngarimu: Te Tohu Toa, also known as Victory at Point 209, since it came out in 2012.
"The illustrations are just magnificent and the text which was done at the time in te reo Maori and English is wonderful, and given that this year has a lot of significance around military stories, we really wanted to bring this alive and show it as an example of how you can take a great story about the past, maintain its integrity, but bring it into an interactive 2015 version to engage our young people," he says.
Kiwa’s adaptation of Ngarimu: Te Tohu Toa should be available for download later in the year.
