Maori fill more senior state roles
The Human Rights Commission says more Maori are in senior leadership positions in the public service, but the percentage is still lower that it should be.
Equal Employment Opportunity Commissioner Jackie Blue says between 2010 and 2014 Maori in senior leadership increased from 8.3 percent to 12 percent.
Releasing the commission’s report on human resource capability in the state sector, Dr Blue says the public sector needs to reflect New Zealand’s changing face from the boardroom down.
She says women make up 60 percent of state servants, but well under half of senior leadership.
The gender pay gap has expanded slightly while ethnic pay gaps show little change between 2010-2014.
