Last chance to vote for Labour leader
Labour Party members have just 24 more hours to cast their vote as to who should be their next leader, and Hauraki Waikato MP Nanaia Mahuta says it’s been a great campaign to be part of.
She’s been travelling the country over the past month with fellow candidates Andrew Little, David Parker and Grant Robertson, all trying to convince members they have what it takes to help the part recover from its worst election result in 90 years.
She picked up a valuable last minute endorsement from the party’s Auckland Pacific sector, which said she was its first preference because of a need to support and work together with the Maori sector.
Ms Mahuta says that’s part of the reason she put her name in.
"This was about asserting that of the 25 percent of people who voted for Labour there was good support across the Maori electorates, in South Auckland and across the Pasifika vote and we need to build from that constituency as we move foraward in to the next election because I think some of the things that did go well went well in those areas," she says.
