FOMA head a woman of influence


Acknowledgement today for the work of Federation of Maori Authorities chair Traci Houpapa.
She has won the DLA Phillips Fox board and management award at this year's Women of Influence Awards.
Judging panel member Therese Walsh praised her ability to lead in new and different ways in some tough environments.
The judges were especially impressed by the progression made in her role as the first women chair of the federation which is the country's largest Maori economic network.
In the social enterprise category,McAuley High School principal Anne Miles was a co-winner for the work she has done lifting the academic achievement of young Maori and Pacifica women.
The supreme award was won by Lesley Elliott, who became an anti-violence campaigner after witnessing the death of her daugher Sophie at the hands of a former boyfriend.
