Iwi and environment focus of scholars
Waikato Regional Council has given a boost to four Waikato University students with its annual Dame Te Atairangikaahu Scholarships.
Deputy chair Tipa Mahuta says the scholarships, which have been given since 1991, are a valuable way of supporting emerging leaders.
She was impressed by the desire of the winning students to work with the environment and help their iwi.
Gina Reed from Great Barrier Island is studying towards becoming an environmental planner.
Hemi May Hill from Helensville want to become a bilingual primary school teacher.
Kiriana Isgrove from Turua is keen to start her masters degree next year and pursue an interest in environmental genetics, while Brendon Haaka Tangiora is looking for environmental management or planning roles.
