Walker aims for hit with reo song

Expect to hear a lot from Stan Walker in the next few weeks as the Sydney-based singer releases what he hopes will be his first te reo Māori hit.
Walker and his collaborators, who include Maisey Rika, Ria Hall and Mt Zion co-star Troy Kingi, hope Aotearoa will match the success of Poi E 30 years ago.
Producer Matai Smith says he had the idea after seeing the Australian Idol winner singing Crowded House's Don't Dream It's Over in te reo Māori at the Beyonce concert in Auckland last year.
Walker says he’s proud to be Māori, and he has been seeking opportunities to use te reo in his act.
